Research shows children who play chess have higher standardized test scores and academic performance. Chess improves decision making, critical thinking, focus, memory and other key mental skills. We offer chess classes to children ages 3 and up through Chessology with Ian Atkins.
Tae Kwon Do is a traditional form of Korean Martial Art that can contribute to a child's overall well-being by helping them remain physically active. Tae Kwan Do is an engaging way to improve discipline, strength and coordination, as well as academic and athletic pursuits. JLC partners with Sensei Adam Vann of
Peace Martial Arts for this activity.
Ballet is known to improve posture, agility and sensory motor skills. By practicing each move, students are also learning to listen and communicate well, all while stimulating their creativity. For ballet classes, we are proud to work with the Conservatory of Dance and Fine Arts, led by V. Michelle Douglas.
Children who study music tend to have larger vocabularies and more advanced reading skills. Learning and reading music also stimulates parts of the left side of the brain responsible for language and reasoning.
Learning a new language, especially at a young age, can improve memory and boost brain power. Not only can this help your child have a sharper mind, but studies show learning a second language also helps with reading and comprehension of your first language.
